Print Press Operator
The Print Press Operator is responsible for the daily operation of print line, including carrying out various quality tests. Print Press Operators set-up, operate, and maintain the print press to produce printed material. Print Press Operator have knowledge of the standard practices, materials, techniques, and processes used in print line and consistently adhere to safety rules and regulations associated with operating such machinery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in production activities associated with machine setup, operation, clean-up, and recommend improvements to operations.
- Prepare printing forms according to the production plan.
- Prepare printing inks for each print job.
- Prepare/cut the cores for each print job.
- Prepare/stage substrate.
- Clean printing forms.
- Inspect all printing forms before and after run to ensure that all necessary reorders are made before the next print production.
- Store printing forms and inks systematically.
- Carry out various quality tests.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Use computers as needed to run process operation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and problem solving in the production.
- Support Lead Press Operators in maintaining efficiency.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures.
- Work in a quality conscious manner and adhere to our high quality standards.
- Inform overlapping Print Press Operators of possible issues during shift change.
- Ensure the production area is clean and prepared for the next shift. Materials should be available and work area should be clean and organized at shift end.
- Inspect the press, ink room and raw material warehouse for cleaning and tidiness upon arrival. Report findings to Lead.
- Inspect raw and finished goods.
- Ensure all supplies are scanned and returned to its proper location.
- Adhere to the recycling guidelines.
- Adhere and comply with high hygiene standard (e.g. beard/hair nets required and jewelry is not allowed) with proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the production area.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a print machine operator, preferably with flexographic printing.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to pass a vision and color test.
- Basic computer experience required. Microsoft Office, Excel, and Microsoft AX experience, preferred.
- Availability to work in shift models (24/7 – 12 hour shifts).
- Willingness to work overtime as needed and to assist in other departments if necessary.
- Must be willing to work any shift, including weekends and holidays, if necessary.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
- Physical activity required including frequent bending, lifting, and standing during the work time.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs. and full range of movement to do work inside and on the machine.
- Punctuality and regular attendance is an essential function.
