Promoting awareness and biodiversity

To play an active role in our local community and to support biodiversity, we have established a 8,000 m2 flower meadow on a fallow field close to our factory in Ilsenburg, Germany.

In an employee survey at our German Print facility, we looked for new initiatives to give something back to our local environment. The print facility is located close to the large and ecologically complex Harz National Park (part of Natura 2000 – the Europe nature conservation network) – and keeping this in mind, we had an ambition to make a project which could support biodiversity and at the same time increase awareness of protection of the natural environment.

Based on this, we started a project with the motto “Bees-Flowers-Orchards”, all of which are important building blocks in Harz National Park. To support biodiversity and create new habitats for bees and other insects, we established a 8,000 m2 flower meadow on a fallow field close to our factory in Ilsenburg, Germany.

Beehives are placed in the middle of the field and apart from giving new habitats for bees, the project also provides employees and guests with free organic honey. In addition, it has given us the opportunity to make partnerships with the local community, as the flower meadow is used by nearby schools, as a green classroom where pupils can see, learn and increase awareness of the beauty of the original ecosystem.
